OUR STORY

Welcome to Swing for the Lowcountry—a heartfelt community-driven movement rooted in compassion, connection, and the belief that no one should face breast cancer alone.

Founded by survivors and advocates on Daniel Island, South Carolina, The Swing was created with a powerful purpose: to provide direct financial assistance to local women undergoing breast cancer treatment. From groceries and gas to utility bills and childcare, the support we offer helps ease everyday burdens, allowing patients to focus on healing.

At the heart of our efforts is our namesake event—The Swing, held each October at the beautiful Daniel Island Club. Designed as a day of empowerment and joy, this women-only gathering welcomes participants for golf, tennis, pickleball, and community connection. It's more than a fundraiser—it’s a celebration of resilience, friendship, and strength.

Since launching in 2019, The Swing has raised over $750,000 and supported hundreds of women across the Lowcountry. In 2024 alone, we assisted more than 150 patients with basic needs during some of their most difficult days. With $0.95 cents of every $1.00 going directly to those in need, our impact is immediate and deeply personal.

To expand our reach and streamline support, The Swing proudly partners with MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, South Carolina’s only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center. This collaboration allows us to efficiently deliver resources to breast cancer patients throughout the region.

With every swing, serve, and smile, we’re not just raising funds—we’re building a stronger, more compassionate community. A community where women support women, where stories inspire action, and where hope always has a place.

Join us. Be part of the movement. Be part of the story. Be part of The Swing.

LORI'S STORY

The Swing, Founder & CEO

Meet our fearless founder, Lori Bayer—a woman whose infectious optimism, heartfelt leadership, and unshakable dedication are making a lasting impact in the fight against breast cancer.

With a background in sales and marketing, Lori has always had a gift for connecting with people and creating meaningful experiences. But everything changed in 2018 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Navigating treatment with strength, grace, and the support of her family and community, Lori emerged not only as a survivor—but as a passionate advocate for others on the same path.

Determined to give back and support local women facing the same challenges, Lori launched Swing for the Lowcountry, lovingly known as The Swing. With the help of her husband, Paul, and a close-knit circle of friends, what began as a simple idea has grown into a powerful movement of hope, healing, and community action. Her vision and energy have helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in direct support for breast cancer patients across the Lowcountry.

Lori’s story of resilience continues to inspire others to show up, give back, and swing into action. Her leadership is rooted in compassion, and her mission is personal—but the impact she’s making is shared by everyone who joins in.

When she’s not working behind the scenes on The Swing, you’ll find Lori enjoying life on Daniel Island—playing golf, reading, gardening, crafting, or sharing laughs over a game of mahjong.
